Porta potties. They can be a great convenience for those that have outdoor events or for those that have outdoor working areas.

For these reasons, there are over 16,000 employees in the United States dedicated to the portable toilet rental industry.

If you are reading this, your company is likely looking into porta potty rental. However, you may not know the first thing about installing these portable toilets.

No need to fear. This guide will tell you everything that you need to know about setting these up.

Determine Your Need

The first thing that you need to do is determine your primary need for the toilets.

Are these mainly going to be used by employees? How about event guests? How many people do you expect to use these toilets in one day?

These are questions that you need to answer before you set up your portable toilets. This is important for a couple of reasons.

Determining your need can help narrow down the appropriate location to put these toilets. For example, if the portable toilet is for employees, you will likely put it behind the scenes in an outdoor area so that guests or customers cannot see or smell it.

However, if it is for guests, you are going to want to put this in a visible area that is easy to access.

Then, you have to think about how many people are going to end up using these toilets at one time. If you think this number will be substantial, it is a good indication that you should order some extra toilets.

Conduct a good assessment of your area and your primary purpose. Then, you can order portable toilets accordingly.

Consider the Land

Another thing that you need to do is look at what type of land you want to put a portable toilet on.

Is the land flat? Is it stable?

You have to answer those questions before you place a portable toilet somewhere. Otherwise, you run the risk of having it tip over because it is on an uneven or unstable surface.

Ideally, you want these toilets on flat land in a stable environment to help minimize this risk.

Think About Your Surroundings

Going off of the above, you want to protect the toilets you rent in any way possible. However, the land it’s on is not the only issue.

You need to think about what type of weather your area is exposed to. For example, is the area this is going to be in known for having high winds? Is it known for being a more open area for those winds?

If you answered yes to those questions, then you are going to have to account for this and try to give these portable toilets some more protection. You can do this by putting these right in front of a fence to block some of the wind. Or, you can place this right in the middle of two buildings and stands.

The goal for the above is to put it in a place where some of the natural elements can be blocked.

However, this is not the only thing that you want to protect the toilets from. If you are having an outdoor event, you may end up having some immature teenagers or exceptionally drunk people on your site. They may get the idea if nobody is around that it could be funny to try to tip one of these toilets over themselves.

Unfortunately, companies have to account for stupid people and stupid behavior these days. What can you do about this?

You can make it more difficult for people to do something like this by following the above advice. If you put it next to a barrier like a fence or a solid structure such as a building, it will make it more difficult to do this.

Think About Usage

Finally, you have to remember that there needs to be some sort of sanitation access for these porta potties. At some point during its lifespan, you are going to have to dump the waste that builds up in these potties.

If you have close access to plumbing and sewage, this can be made easier. This is also part of the reason why you should have an idea of how much usage these toilets are going to get.

How many hours per day is your event or work site going to be operational for? How many people are going to be on this site at one time?

The answers to these questions should give you a better idea of how much usage your toilets will get.

Humans can poop up to three times per day. So, if you assume that people are doing this more frequently, you are going to have to dump the waste frequently if you have enough people and enough hours for your event.

Hire a Portable Toilet Rental Company

These are the factors that you need to consider before you contact a portable toilet rental company. Ideally, you want to prepare for this as much as possible before the toilets come to the site.

This includes evaluating the site to see if there is somewhere stable to place the toilets. Then, you need to think about the surrounding area to further protect the toilets, the amount of usage these toilets might get, as well as the primary need.
